A view inside Gate Pa, Tauranga, after British forces had taken it over, with soldiers standing on top of the trenches and a few wounded Maori seated or lying in the bottom of the trenches. The view looks past the palisades out to sea. There are two stretcher-bearers to the right taking out the wounded. The two wounded Maori in the right-hand ditch are a young man wounded in the arm and hand, and, to his left, Rewiti, wounded in the thigh.
