My dear McLean,
I have nothing to add to last nights letter. What little news I have from Wairoa is of no account. Nothing will be done until Ropata gets there - He and his men are the only force we have capable of tracking Te Kooti through the Forrest.
I have sent officially a lot of documents bearing on the attempt to make old Hapuku a Bankrupt. I hope quite enough information goes to frustrate Wilson's little game.
The time for the Assembly meeting

is coming quickly on and I shall be glad of the change and comparative rest - the work here lately has been very heavy.
Always Yours most truly
A lovely day - warm as summer. Nebraska in and off again. The Napier will land Ropata tonight at Wairoa. J.D.O.
