Government House New Zealand,

April 1, 1872

My dear McLean,

I have not the slightest objection to Hood in the 'Luna'. But I think we had better not have any addition to the party overland, as there will be difficulty about horses etc. If you go round the coast Hood will be a companion for you, and I only regret for your sake that you have not Mrs. Hood also - the best of the two.

I should like to have Major Mair (if possible,) to go with me from Taupo to Tauranga. Could you telegraph to him to hold himself in readiness, and we can let him know the exact day from Napier.

Fairchild proposes that he start at 3 P.M. tomorrow. I had better write to Mrs. Tollemache to tell her to be on hand before that hour.

Ever yours,
G. F. Bowen
