My dear McLean

On the chance of a stray opportunity I enclose this letter for you, and hope you had a pleasant trip up to Akiteo -

Whitmore has sent a messenger this morning to say that the Pohui natives have killed from 50 to 70 sheep and wantonly destroyed many more, and demands active measures etc. etc. - You should get the sanction of the Govt. to crush this nest of robbers and make all sure by moving old Kopu and Ihaka on the other side -

Yours truly
Joseph Rhodes
