William Billing, settler at Ngamotu.

states that his pigs have been in the habit of tresspassing on the Native plantations at Muturoa and that he has paid Tiripi a native of that place for the said damages one pig - about that time the said native killed a dog of his as payment for a pig that had been killed by the dog the pig was worth about a shilling. The said native offered as nearly as I could understand to look after the pigs by being paid two ducks which I gave him the first tresspassing after this he set the dogs on the pigs and said he would not look after them longer but asked payment for the damage done the wheat.

Poharama another native of Muturoa came to my house with his son who had a pistol in his hand and pulled about several articles in my house during my absence alarming my wife and demanding a payment for the above trespasses and on Sunday last when I went to look for my pigs the same native took my walking stick from me and broke it also took hold of the hat on my head at the time and tore the brim off it.

W. Billing.
