I am afraid be destroyed. I am sorry for this because I believe that through Ihaia's instrumentality we should eventually succeed in settling the Taranaki question. If W. King maintains the sway, farewell to all prosperity in New Plymouth for a long time to come. Everything here is perfectly quiet and orderly.

In great haste
Yours

Auckland
8th. Feb. 1858.

My dear Sir,

The "Henry" has arrived from New P. --- and as a vessel is reported to sail today at noon, I have just time to say that the news from there is not cheering. A skirmish took place between Ihaia and his opponents on Hoby's Farm Bell B. 1 killed and 7 wounded on Ihaha's side. The Ikamoana is being invested on all sides and poor Ihaia will I am afraid be destroyed. I am sorry for this because I believe that through Ihaia's instrumentality we should eventually succeed in settling the Taranaki question. If W. King maintains the sway, farewell to all prosperity in New Plymouth for a long time to come. Everything here is perfectly quiet and orderly.

In great haste
Yours
J. Rogan.
