May 11 1871.

I have taken the liberty of sending you three late issuea of "The Herald" containing two leading articles upon native affairs, and a letter from the natives to the Editor of the "Wairarapa Mercury". I send also the last "Waka Maori". I think you will read them with interest.

I am now preparing another issue of "Te Waka". If there be anything you wish to say to the natives of this Province, it will be a good opportunity of giving publicity to it.

I am, Sir, Yours very respectfully,
James Grindell.
The Hon. D. McLean,
Native Minister, Napier.
