Saturday 6th.

My dear Sir,

Ihaka Whanga has just come down the river, he seems rather annoyed with Pitiera who it appears has kept some fifteen rifles that came up in the Huntress and will not give him a share, He was going to Port to see you about it but I promised to write to you instead - He also wants some more provisions as they are rather short of food just now the potatoes being hardly ripe.

I believe the forces make a start inland on Monday in two bodies one up the Wairoa and the other up the Waiau.

I am, My dear Sir,
Faithfully yrs.,
S. Deighton.
