My dear Sir

Andrew Barton is very pouri about his removal, and I also find that the natives generally are very wishful to keep him at Waipa. I suppose you have reasons for thinking otherwise. If so, I would observe that I did not mean to send any "Petition", but I have been informed by Andrew, and also by old Hakaraea, his father in law, that the pakehas in the Waikato are sending petitions and our natives are doing the same. If I do not, he and his relatives will think me wanting in aroha ki taku tamaiti I might get more signatures but have hardly time to go about the country for that purpose.

All is perfectly quiet here at present - all are busy at sowing wheat and planting potatoes.

I remain,
Very respectfully yours
C. H. Schnackenberg.
