Mauta, December 6th. 1851.

Joseph Carroll having called upon me to certify a conversation which passed between Samuel Harrington and Joseph Mason, sometime the beginning of last Winter at Mohaka, I hereby certify that during our eonversation Samuel Harrington said that he allowed his boat-steerer, Joseph Mason, one share and a half. Upon my asking him how he could afford to give him so much, he, Samuel Harrington, replied that he gave him the extra quarter of a share in consideration of his acting as Carpenter to repair boats or any other carpentering work that might be required about the fishery.
