Arrived in Auckland on the 29th March 44 wrote Mr. Clarke a letter of thanks for his favor of the 20 Inst. Called upon him at his office when he informed me I might consider myself as entered upon the duties of Protector of Aboriginees and asked if would require any time for myself I told him I would like to have Saturday to do a little business for myself in town.

Saturday March 30.

Breakfasted with the Colonial Secretary at 8 o'clock and remaind with him till 1/2 past 9 o'clock Paid Capt. Rone 40/s McLeod 6/6- purchased 12 H biscuit 2/6 of Mitchell 1 hoe 2/6 1 lb. nails /9d.

Huges By Goods 10 lbs. tobbco. 2/4 - Sugar 2 bgs. Coffee 20 lb. 3 bars Soap took my lodgings at Watts for £1.0.0 per week found in bed washing etc. - dined with Coney sent him 3 Bask. potatoes- heoi ano te korero mea nga mahi o te ra pauna-
