From: Inward family correspondence - Annabella McLean (sister), Reference Number MS-Papers-0032-0816 (50 digitised items). Letters written from Scotland (Edinburgh, Glenorchy Manse, Stranraer) prior to her arrival in New Zealand in Jan 1864 on the Wild Duck; afterwards from Maraekakaho, Napier and Wellington. One letter was written in Sep 1858 during a visit to her sister Flora Ann Conway in North Wales.

My dear Donald
The purpose if all's well to leave here by the 'Nevada' on the 14 of May. Where are we to meet you? I do hope we shall see you and Douglas before we go as it will be a disappointment to both of us if we do not. No doubt it is wearing of me but I can't reconcile

myself to the idea of going so far from home but if it was Robert, the good he expects, it will make up for a great deal. I am so glad that you have taken the house as it keeps the home together. The grounds are looking very pretty just now.

Annabella seems to like the feeling of having a house and I am so glad now that we are going away that Douglas will be here to see his grandfather for Robert has been at all times most attentive and kind to this old man & he will miss him.
