My dear Mr McLean

I called up to wish you good bye but you were not in. Our time is short I cannot stay -

Don't trouble about Henere Pakuatua's letter it is no more than I expected. What would it have been if the Sword had been presented to Pokiha

in the presence of all the Arawa?

I do not know whether you will be here on my return from the Bay But when I go back to Tauranga I will get through my work there as quickly as possible and hold myself in readiness for Wellington to assist you all I can -

Yours very faithfully
