Napier
9 Novr. 1868.

My dear Ormond,

The Wairoa expedition from which I expected some results has turned out a failure chiefly owing to that old fool Lambert. It seems that after all my efforts to prevent his joining the expedition that he set off before Richmond and I were hardly out of the place and went on to Wiataroa although it had been arranged that he was to remain at the Wairoa.
