Treasurers minute of this date on the Native Secretarys Memorandum respecting the proposed purchase, and 3/- per acre (three shillings) has been assented to by all parties as the extreme limit of price.

The great political object of obviating a collision of the races in the event of the discovery of a profitable goldfield is considered to justify the Government in going to this length. It is however earnestly hoped that the native demands may not reach so extortionate a height.
