My dear MacLean,
The St. Kilda having not been able to land on the coast has brought me on here. Reid informs me that another Native Petition signed by about 1400 Maoris will be sent to you by the Ahuriri which will leave this about the 28 inst. Mr. still remains

here, and expresses himself as in the pay of Mr. Whitapir of Auckland. I think from I hear that he is harmless. The state of the natives you will no doubt hear from Biggs, things are not improving since Andrew Mateta's letters, I leave this tomorrow.
Campbell came up with me. Gold is reported to be found at or near Waiapu.
