Dear McLean,

Will you send the ''Cutter'' for self and party, so as to reach here on the 30 or 31 Inst., Lock having been much engaged with the natives gave me assistance with his men and I have pushed on the Work if the ''Iris'' does not arrive by that time he will proceed overland to Napier. Will you let me have the Survey of the 5/- land applied for? and in case you go South leave a letter for me (official) or directions for me to undertake such survey I feel that I deserve this after the way in which I have worked here.

truly and faithfully,
M. Fitzgerald.
