Dear Sir,

I heard as I was leaving Napier that Karaitiana has been put up to take some petition or paper signed by Natives down to the House reflecting upon yourself. I think that it is to the effect that you did not pay the ground rents of your Bills 4 and 5 in order to induce the patrols to sell the free-hold. Te Muera said that his grievance was to be brought before the House by Karaitiana. Te Muera told me that he had no complaint against you but against Renata who did not give him his proper share of the rents. I hear that Mr. Sutton is at the bottom of the affair.

Yours truly in haste
Hanson Turton.
To:-- The Honble D. McLean
