Dear Mr. McLean,

I have just now received Wm.Cotton's reply in reference to the Statement which appeared in the Papers during the Election at the Bay. I send also a Translation of it, in which he

gives the most emphatic, and distinct denial of the whole Statement, and is therefore only one of the many ungenerous assertions made by Mr.Carleton to serve his own political and personal Interests.
