May 18th. (Saturday morning.)

I have opened this letter to say Bayly's case is now settled, as far as Parata's party is concerned.

To avoid certain plunder, and probable bloodshed, the sum demanded was made up by Captain King and W. Bayly, each gave £1.

A receipt has been made out for the amount, embracing a promise to abandon the remaining part of the Agreement, an effectual stopper to any further trouble from them.

Tamihana's stands next, whoch will appear in another letter, and wild as he is, I do not expect difficulty. Still, I may be under an erroneous impression.

Captain King intends to have a notice put up, cautioning all parties against employing natives without a clear and proper Agreement.

Newman has taken Henry Woon's cottage, for a short time, and the marriage is, I believe, to come off on the 4th. of June next. The Misses Horn are to be the bridesmaids; and most of the bachelors will be present; some of whom, I do hope, will be caught, and become temporary tenants, at the now celebrated snuggery near the Parsonage.

I have no idea where this will find you.
