Dear Mr.McLean,

Nothing new from the Waikato to send you, to this date. I heard from Mair on Monday by telegraph (yesterday) who reports everything quiet, and that Te Wheoro, and Hone Te One had started on Saturday

the 5th inst. from Alexandra for the Kuti - Wm. Barton was to have gone, but his Horse broke down.

We may expect to hear something in about three or four day's time.

William Cotton the Native Member comes down in the Luna, as also Paul Tahaere, I rather discouraged his going, but he had made up his mind, and

intimated that you knew of the arrangement. He does not propose to stay long, and shall be glad to see him back at his post, especially at this time.

Poor old Tamati Naka has gone to his final resting place - many of us in the North, had, from many years acquaintance, involuntarily attached ourselves to him - There is

not one to supply his place. I send you by this mail a Paper with a short Obituary of the good old man, supplied by myself. A Coffin etc. has been provided for him and will be buried on Friday or Saturday next.

Hope this will find you in good health, and sincere wishes for a good Session.
