My dear McLean,

I commend Lake who was dangerously wounded at the first attack on Ngatapa to your kindness. He ought to be in hospital till he can be forwarded to Auckland where his family and friends are. Please give a requisition for a passage for him by first steamer. He is entitled to a suit of Clothes. I don't know whether there are any in Withers store if not will Maj Green see to it and look after the poor fellow who is very feeble and helpless yet. Rapata and a party are still 'in quest of Kooti' I have offered £500 for his capture.

Yours ever,
J. C. RICHMOND
His Honor D. McLean
