My Dear Mr. McLean -

Can you give me an approximate idea of the number of the Maori population in the Mangonui district - as now established, viz. from Herekino on the West Coast and Wangaroa on the East Coast to the North Cape? If so perhaps you will take the trouble to write the number at the bottom of this note and return it to me - By this you will much oblige

Yours truly
James Busby
