Press, Ch ch,

May 4/66

My dear McLean,

Will you kindly send me the Accounts (published) of your revenue and expenditure in Hawkes Bay for the last five years. I am trying to acquire a knowledge of all the finances of the Colony Provincial as well as General. I suppose you see the row I am in about the Manawatu. I have taken no part but simply to publish the letters sent by the natives to the Press. I really believe Featherston has been going too fast And that we shall be in a row again.

Yours ever
James Edward Fitzgerald
